Agreed with The Raph.

K-Rod's antics are very similar to Bill Murray rolling in the championship game in Kingpin

All I can say is god bless the rule that demands one representative from each team make the all star game. In 2002, the Pirates illustrious 'closer' Mike Williams was the teams lone representative. This from Wikipedia, tells you all you need to know about the second most famous closer named Williams...

In his career, he posted a record of 32-54 with 144 saves and a 4.45 ERA. When he was selected to the 2002 All-Star game, he set the record for being the pitcher with the highest E.R.A. while making an all-star team. He still remains the only pitcher to play in an all-star game while having an ERA of over 6.00 during the same regular season.

His style for closing out games was unorthodox, as it involved him getting himself into a jam, but then getting out of it.

Yes...an ERA OVER 6. So basically if he came in in the 9th inning in a save situation, there was at least a 66% chance that the opposing team would score a run...god damn.

The proof is in the pudding...

Since 1901, a lead after 8 innings has held up 95% of the time. That number has not dwindled inspite of steroids, juiced balls, and smaller strikezones.

What the study did not show is the likability factor of closers has also gone down. Will there once again be effective closers that you will be able to like such as Dennis Eckersley and Rod Beck?

First!

I enjoy the closer role only for the humor factor. I get to make fun of K-Rod and his awesome antics on the mound for being a complete douchebag and thinking that what he is doing is an amazing feat of athleticism.

Who are they pointing to anyways? It's not a tribute to someone if you act like an ass.
