Here we go again on our own. Going down the only road we’ve ever known

So as soon as we get a little hope built up with the fans and the community by sweeping the lowly manager/GM-less Mariners, the Nationals promply get back to their old way by dropping five of the next six.
Whew, and for a second I thought we might be on the winning side of things again! This is what I was afraid of and why I was so critical when I first read the press after that series. Much like they do with the ‘Skins around here, the media blinds their self with the minor positive to the point they can’t see the glaring negative. Yes, the Nats swept a series, but was it from anyone of any caliber? No It wasn’t from anyone in their own division, let alone their own league! It was the worst team in baseball who has already fired most of their upper management as they prepare for the fire sale this July. All they did was what they were supposed to do. They beat a lesser team. Even with those six wins the team is a mear 6-20 this month.
Well now that I think of it, with a 6-20 record in June, maybe the team did go above and beyond with that sweep. Maybe we are the worst team in the league and by sweeping the Mariners we are now exceeding expectations… nope.
They just aren’t very good. However, I am holding out hope that this weekend the Nats can reclaim some of their pride and get a series win in the Battle of the Beltway series against the O’s. But I have this seeping suspicion that even if they do dismantle the O’s, the losing ship will be righted again and we will be back to our old ways. The underdog that can’t. Back to where we feel comfortable.
